Jeff Cary

Preaching Minister, Elder

The Cary family has worshipped with the Idalou Church of Christ since January of 2011, during which time Jeff has served as the preaching minister. He also has served as an elder since 2019. Beyond his work with our congregation, Jeff serves as Dean of the College of Biblical Studies and Professor of Christian History and Theology at Lubbock Christian University, where he met his wife Amy. Jeff and Amy have three children: Anna, Tyler, and Olivia. Jeff’s training includes: Lubbock Christian University (B.A., Bible); Abilene Christian University (M.S., Bible and Ministry); Harding School of Theology (M.Div.); Baylor University (Ph.D. in Theology).

Brandon Goen

Elder

Brandon and Amy moved to Idalou from Hobbs, NM in 2016.  Brandon and Amy were married in 1996 and they are blessed with four children:  Brittney and her husband Michael Pugh of Abilene, Byron and his wife Aly, Avery, and Abby. Brandon graduated from Lubbock Christian University in 1999 and currently serves in the university’s financial affairs department.

Mark Hegi

Elder

Mark and Cheryl have worshipped in Idalou since 2018.  They met at Texas A&M University where Mark has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy.  Mark has lived and farmed in Petersburg his entire life, Cheryl was raised in Winters, Texas. They were married on her birthday in 1980.  They have 3 children who each have 3 children:  John and Elizabeth Hegi have Maverick, Natalie, and Vivienne; Sarah and Jordan Simpson have Luke, Levi, and Lincoln; Kyle and Lacey Hegi have Emma, Miles, and Ally.

Tim McDonald

Elder

Tim and Jill McDonald have worshipped with the Idalou Church of Christ since 2017.  Tim works for AgTexas Farm Credit Services.  Jill and Tim were married in 1985 and they have two adult children, Brette and her husband Logan Keller of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Miles McDonald and his wife Bailee of Lubbock, Texas.  

Cary Russell

Elder

Cary and June Russell have worshiped with the Idalou Church of Christ since 2020 after moving from Lenorah, Texas where they both retired from Grady ISD. Cary and June were married in 1982. They have a daughter, Kierston and son-in-law, Chris, along with grandchildren Claire and Oliver, and a son Carsten and daughter-in-law Sarah along with grandchildren Hazel and Silas. The four grandchildren are the very reason Cary and June moved to Idalou.

Jesalyn Becker

Children's Minister

Jesalyn is married to Alston Becker, with children Ben and Finley. She loves helping at our church! When she's not serving our children, she is a stay-at-home mom.

Amy Rektenwald

Children's Minister

Amy and Jesslyn  are the director of cradle row, toddlers, and our Pre-K through 4th graders. 

As directors, they recruits teachers, teaches on a regular basis, and other children's events throughout the year. 

Amy has a Bachelor's degree in Christian Counseling. She has a teaching degree from New Mexico. When she's not planning and working with our children, she works in the office at Madewell Construction.

Scott Rektenwald

Youth & Family Minister

Scott was born in Vernon, Texas on April 1, 1983. Scott graduated from Lubbock Christian University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 2006. While at LCU, Scott met his wife Amy. They have two children, their son Josiah was born in 2011 and their daughter Mallory was born in 2016. 

After his graduation from LCU, Scott moved to Clovis, NM to work as a youth and family minister with 21st Street Church of Christ. Their family then moved to Lubbock, Texas for Scott to take on the role of Co Youth Minister and to work as a Family Minister in 2012. Scott received his Masters Degree in Family Ministries from Lubbock Christian University in 2013. Scott then took on the role of youth and family minister here at Idalou Church of Christ in March 11, 2021.
